About 6 weeks ago, I was informed that our Tai Chi Academy had been invited to participate in the Australian Kung-Fu Wu-Shu Federation's 1st Western Australia State Kung-Fu/Wu-Shu & Tai Chi Championships.
After a lot of trying to not think about it too much, I've decided to enter. I don't know if I am going to do any more than just the basic form, or whether I'll be confident enough to do weapons as well (although Maxine reckons my weapons forms are a lot better than some peoples). So I guess I should start practicing a lot more. I can see by reading some of the regulations, I'm going to end up feeling comparitively naked when competing - not allowed to wear jewellry of any description, nails must be short, no metal hair clips (wonder what exactly they mean by that?), no heavy metal, body piercings, earrings or rings (I thought that they'd have come under jewellry, anyway).
And reading a bit more of the rules and regs, I see I can only enter one weapons event. So that just leaves me to decide on sword or sabre. And it doesn't look as though I'll be able to qualify for a State Title, as I'd need to enter two "Bare Hand" routines and one weapons routine. I only have one bare hand routine.
And reading the write-up on the website linked above, I really don't consider myself to be to be included in Western Australia's talented athletes list...It's just tai chi, after all!
Erg, the other annoying thing about this, is that I'm sure I've come across a reference to the head of the AKWF through work. It's a tad disconcerting, because I might actually be wrong. And I've got no way of checking, because the paperwork I would've seen the reference on has been sent back to the client and we wouldn't have kept a copy of it...
