The ceiling feature of the Grand Ballroom:
This is where a number of small businesses all get lumped into the Grand Ballroom at the Hyatt, get fed a three-course meal, have a really bad live band, get really drunk and dance like idiots.
This year was no exception.
The food was fairly good, and included things like lobster salad, turkey wrapped in proscuitto, and a pineapple and ginger jam tart. The desert dish also included a chocolate Christmas Tree...mmmmm.....
The band was fairly bad. They were called Retro. If anyone who went to the Mission that first night we were all in Edinburgh thought that the music was cheesy would've found this band even worse. 60s, 70s and 80s...I got dragged out onto the dance floor once. And it was to an ABBA medley...*shudders* At least I managed to avoid the YMCA...
Towards the end of the evening, when the live band ducked off stage for dinner and a costume change, a couple of drunken guys decided that the empty stage would become theirs. So for a couple of songs, we ended up having a live air band. Which was more entertaining than the band the hotel had hired!
Sadly, the live band came back on soon after, and started belting out John Farnham's "The Voice". Our table decided that was our cue to go home. I was home by midnight!
Next week - Tai Chi Christams party!
