10 October 2006

Fun, fun, fun. Well, a week and a half ago, Nettie and I (plus half her family, it seemed) headed off to the Royal Show. Good day was had by all, and lots of goodies were munched (if you want to read more, check Nettie's posts here and photos here). Much to my horror, I munched a bit too much and broke a molar. Since then, I've had emergency dental work done, which involved removing the broken bit of tooth, and filling it temporarily.

The dentist I saw then (located on the floor below at work) quoted me $2.5 to $3 grand to have a root canal and crown done. Everyone I've spoken to since then has advised me to get a second opinion as he sounds way to pricey. So today I went and saw another dentist (up near our local shopping centre), who has said that he can do the root canal work for $1300, and I don't need a crown done immediately. You've got to wonder at how inflated the first dentist's fees are. Although, he does have to pay rent for a cushy city office.

So, I'm off to the dentist at the start of November to get this root canal work done. I don't think it's going to be very pleasant. Fortunately, despite the fact that I've not seen a dentist since I was 12, and I don't have the most rigorous of dental care routines, I don't actually need any other work done, apart from a thorough clean. Yay me!
