Okay, so I've not posted in...three months. I've just not had any blog-worthy news, really. Still don't really, but thought I'd have a ramble. Because I've been thinking of doing so.
So, since the end of October, life's been chugging away like normal. And no, there's no sign of a certain bit of jewellry from a certain fiance...
Christmas passed by with little fuss. And the two weeks off work was nice. The boss decided she needed a break, so shut up the office for two weeks. Not that she actually had much time to relax. Not only did she have a client who insisted on seeing her during the holiday, we got confirmation that our request to renew the lease on our office was declined (even if it hadn't been declined, the rent would triple on the renewal. Yes, triple.). Which meant that when the lease expires at the end of February, we technically don't have an office to work from.
Panic ensues. And the first week back at work, my boss concentrated all her efforts on trying to find a new office. She found somewhere that first week that will cost the same per month as the current place does at the moment. Already decorated in our firm's colours of blue and silver. It had to be ours, it seemed perfect! So Friday afternoon after the boss had seen the place, she submitted the application to lease the place.
The following week we waited to see if we got the place. Monday went by, no news. Half of Tuesday went by, no news. The boss rang the leasing agent, to find he was on leave until Wednesday. So we had to wait until Wednesday to see if we had the place. He eventually rang, and told us that there were two other parties interested in the place. And that he had to go to the owners to negotiate as to who gets the place. Yet another day we had to wait. Aaargh! Finally, on Thursday we got the news we'd been waiting to hear. We got the place! Unfortunately, the lease starts in April. So we're still technically without an office for March. And we can't just shut up shop for the month, because we have deadlines in March. Crap.
We also sub-let our current office to another accounting firm (firm? Two people, husband and wife). When told that we had lost the lease to the current place (on Christmas Eve), they told my boss that they weren't interested in discussing the issue since they were on holiday...When asked if they would help to look for a new office, they showed no interest. When told we'd found a new place in West Perth, they told us they didn't want to move out to "the 'burbs", and will make their own arrangements (much rejoicing in the office ensued). The new office is 3.2km from the current place. While not in the city centre, it certainly isn't "the 'burbs".
One week later, they had apparently gone to look at our new office location, decided that they did like it, and promptly pounced my boss and asked if they could move across with us (cue everyone feeling extraordinarily sick all of a sudden). Then over the course of the following week, we had a fax come through for them (we share our fax line and PO box with them - it's all in my boss's name) which was for pricing of a new phone system. Now, the phone system in our office (again) is all my boss's stuff, which she partially leases to the other firm. So, we have plenty of phones in the office. Why would they be interested in pricing of a new phone system unless they were moving to their own place? I also took a call (since I'm their receptionist, too. Unpaid, I might add) from a telecommunication mob regarding wiring up a storage unit...
Then this week, word gets back to my boss (via her friends) that the other firm is looking to sublet from another accounting firm located in South Perth. South Perth, despite being separated from the city by the river, obviously isn't in "the 'burbs". However, we were a tad surprised by the phrasing used by the other firm in their plea for new residency. "We've been kicked out of our current place with no warning." Uhh...yeah...no warning. Sure, you didn't know that we were having troubles regarding the lease when it first came up at the start of December. Sure, you didn't know we had lost the lease when my boss phoned you at home to tell you on Christmas Eve. Sure, you didn't know...asshats.
I will be so
Oh well. We have yet to work out what's happening to office space during March. And we have to negotiate with the current tennant of the new place for moving in and the like. Although, he's going to be staying on and subletting from us there, so it won't be too bad, I hope.
Well, I didn't mean to ramble on about work stuff. I'd had an idea to ramble about books earlier today. Unfortunately, I was at work at the time and couldn't really stop to write what seemed like something that was a lot more interesting than what this one's been. So maybe if I can remember that ramble, I'll post it another time!
