Try again

Wow, obviously my last post was so thrilling, no one (except Acci) was able to comment... ;-)

On the few occasions I've been asked to clarify what a blog is, I always stumble about a vague, online diary-type thing. And then wonder why I'm trying to run one myself. I've never been very good at keeping a diary. I envy my mum who manages to write pages of stuff in notebooks on a daily basis. But then again, she does have the leisure to lounge about for an hour or so doing said writing.

So, am I keeping a blog to record my thoughts for my own purposes of keeping track of my life? Am I doing it to let the few friends who know I have a blog know what I'm thinking? Have I just done it, because all the "cool kids" were doing it and I wanted to join in (much like Facebook, I have to add)?

I've just been through the various blogs that I've got bookmarked and have fed through an RSS feed. It's depressing to see all these blogs which haven't been updated in several months (or a couple which haven't been updated in a year or more), and having to remove a couple of bookmarks because the blogs have disappeared. Does this mean I'm not the only one who gets bored with writing about their life?

Actually, I think the reason why I don't blog more is because I don't feel as though I have anything worth saying. Or more often, I think of something, but I'm usually nowhere near a computer, or have a pen and paper handy to record the idea. Or just don't think of doing so. Which means that by the time I remember to record an idea, several months have passed since my last blog post. No more! I'm going to try to do better. Promise! Although, just be prepared to have more odd ramblings like this to read through.

You blog so that strange people in other countries can keep up with what's going on in your life. :)

Yeah, what Tru said. ;-)
That's the main reason I write mine, anyway. I think I don't update mine very often for the same reasons you mentioned. I really should try to be more regular.

(Word verification - slounde. That's a great word!)

Yep, I have to agree with Tru. :-)

And there's nothing wrong with odd ramblings. Hell, I'd barely have a blog if it weren't for odd ramblings!

You could start carrying around one of those little voice-recorders in your pocket, and pull it out and record your ideas for your blog whenever you think of them. Then people can just think you're some sort of pretentious weirdo. ;-)

Or you could add bikini photos to your blog to increase viewings. . .

I think most people start up a blog just because everybody else is doing it as well, and then since they did it even more people are encouraged to do so. Sort of like a nuclear chain reaction, only with more subtle explosions and brain cell loss. And then many of those people get bored with their new toy and stop.

And Hieronymous: you are an odd rambling. That's part of your appeal!

I must admit that apart from not updating my blog recently I haven't even found the time to check any one else's either. I saw the link to this on facebook! lol
I need to get my butt into gear and start updating more often too.

Oh, does this mean I'm one of the 'cool kids'? I've never been cool before :-D

Nettie, yes, you're one of the "Cool kids". ;-)

Acci, my mobile phone apparently can do voice recordings, so I won't look too pretentious if I used that. I'd just look as though I'm having a very odd conversation.

I like keeping up with everyone's blogs. It kind of makes me feel like I'm reading a letter from a friend, which is always nice. I don't update mine nearly as often as I should, probably for the same reason that everyone else has said: there just doesn't seem to be much to write about. So I will also try to do better.

*hugs*
